Pied Piper places 2nd at the Chicago NOOD
After placing 7th in the first race due to equipment failure Pied Piper recoverd to finish second overall after 7 races were completed for the series. The first day of racing was very tough, breakdowns need to avioded at all costs and we made a mistake in our preparation that in hindsight probably cost us first place in the reggatta. On the first downwind of race 1 our Guy began sliping, at first we thought it was a broken block but on further inspection we noticed that the core of the line had actually broken and the cover was now taking all the load. After race one we inspected the other Guy and found the same problem. Thankfully we were able to borrow two guys from other teams between races and continue racing for the day or our regatta would have been over. Pied Piper was not the only boat to catch the mechanical failure bug as Evolution broke several halyards and had to retire during the third race and the remainder of the regatta.
Two Detriot boats joined the fleet for the Chicago NOOD and sailed well, Stripes who has been out of the coarse racing for the past few years and Detials former Colt 45 so the level and number of boats competing for the season championship has increased.
We are now getting ready for the Bayview Mackinac Race and looking forward to some distance racing.
